Average Rating: out of 5 stars

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - As expected
Everything was as expected. It was delivered on time and the equipment was new, in the original box and worked perfectly.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars - fails after a couple years
Pros: Nice compact form factor, no fan noise, functions well before it fails.

Cons: The power supply died after two years (the unit I bought warranties the power supply for only two years, so I was out of luck). Got it going again using a high quality replacement power supply. Now, a few months after that, no more gigabit connections, and other connection problems. Found out that the Netgear GS switches suffer from electrolytic capacitor failures after a couple years (also see reviews ... Read More

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Good value for a great home network switch
I've used several Netgear products, including this 16-port 10/100/1000 switch as well as the Netgear 4-port 10/100/1000 mini-switch, and I've never experienced any problem. I suspect that some of the failures you're reading about have to do with inadequate ventilation. This is a fanless switch, and if you don't have it located in an area where it can dissipate heat, you'll see that it gets very hot. This can also occur when you pile stuff on top of the switch, as might happen if you locate it in a ... Read More

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Avoid this switch.
It seemed like the best deal out there.16 Gig ports for a great price.I own two of these, bought them together.Wish I could send them back, and Netgear just won't have anything to do with them.Within a couple months, they were locking up, dropping connections.I personally think its because these are fanless, and seem to overheat very quickly. I am amazed that Netgear thinks that a switch should be unplugged when not in use... a network switch is always in use.

As far as performance ... Read More

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars - Upgrading to 1G Ethernet
I have a large network of devices at home and have been waiting for a reasonably priced 16-port switch that would handle 1Gbps ethernet to improve the flow of data between these devices in my home. Doesn't really improve Internet access as that is limited to 100Mbps by my cable modem and only has 15Mbps throughput. But it really does help with Time Capsule backups and synchronization of Apple TV and other devices that do support 1Gbps Ethernet.

Installation was trivial: Just unplug the old connectors ... Read More
