Nothing else even comes close.None of that annoying 5 minute wait like the 12c while you stare at a screen that says "running".Also, the 17b2+ has been visually cheapened (cheap plastic, rather than the metal-like cover).This is the banking gold standard.Easy to use and very intuitive.

This calculator got me through my BBA and MBA.It's too bad the CFA guys don't accept it.I've had mine since 1992.At least the one produced back then was tough.If you use it a lot, though, it will go through your batteries.Carry some spares.I wish HP would integrate some sort of recharchable batterie witha solar panel so that none of the stored functions are lost.

Two models of business calculator are authorized for use on the CFA examinations: the Texas Instruments BA II Plus (including the BA II Plus Professional) and the Hewlett Packard 12C (including the HP 12C Platinum when available). AIMR strictly enforces all policies with regard to calculator usage during the Chartered Financial Analyst examinations and candidates are required to abide by AIMR's policies.
Your calculator will be inspected prior to the start of the examination. Your calculator must then remain on your desk in full view and proctors will continue to inspect calculators throughout the administration of the examination. Proctors are instructed to confiscate all unauthorized calculators. Failure by the proctors to detect an unauthorized calculator prior to the start of the examination, or your use of an unauthorized calculator at any time during the exam, does not imply that the calculator is an approved model or that your scores will ultimately be reported. Use of an unauthorized calculator is considered a violation of AIMR rules, regulation and policies, and may result in a professional conduct investigation with the possibility of sanctions up to and including suspension from participation in the CFA Program and voiding of your examination results.

I acquired it immediately prior to purchasing a car.The loan calculation function allowed me to compare and contrast the different loan packages, interest rates, length of loan and other variables.

Traded my 12c in for this baby and couldn't be happier. Much faster and user-friendly, with alphanumeric display and great solver functionality. Easy to program too, programming on the 12c was so clumsy and convoluted as to be unusable. It can be held in your left hand and operated with your thumb only, something you can't do with the 12c because of the horizontal form factor.
I'm more and more convinced that the popularity of the 12c is a clear sign that finance people don't have much of a clue when it comes to technology.
