NETGEAR GS108 ProSafe 8-Port Gigabit Ethernet Desktop Switch
Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - DO WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT
This is a bad product. It is not compatible with my multiple devices like DELL laptop etc. that make it virtually useless.

Its support phone line is a garbage, horrible support from their oversee team(must be cheap) bad attitude, poor technical knowledge, far from professional way.

Rating: 1 out of 5 stars - Cheap power adaptor, expensive to replace
Although the switch itself has a "lifetime" warranty, the power adapter is only warrantiedfor two years. Our failed after about 2.5 years, and Netgear charges $27.00 for a replacement with is close to 50% of the cost of the switch.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Fantastic
This is an amazing little switch.I have always loved Netgears smaller line of Gigabit switches for their quality metal construction and small size.I have this switch installed into the media panel of my home where space is very limited. It functions perfectly.I have never had an issue with this or their 5 port version before.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - Works fine
A note about all the users here who gave this one star because the capacitors blew up within a few months to a couple years of purchase: Do a Google search on "capacitor plague" and read about it.There were widespread problems with electrolytic caps from about 1999 to about 2005.It's not clear what was happening, but it affected a lot of manufacturers, including Dell and others. It's not because they were using cheap parts; it was some problem that affected most of the caps produced during that time, and most manufacturers didn't realize it until they started getting a lot of reports of "my capacitors blew up after 24 months".

I just got one of these and it seems fine.I expect the capacitor problem is now gone.

Rating: 5 out of 5 stars - What a difference!
I recently had a big workstation crash that forced me to revisit my home network after 10 years. One of the additions was a Western Digital ShareSpace 4 TB 4-Bay Gigabit Ethernet Network Attached Storage with RAID 5 - WDA4NC40000N.When I plugged in the array and started moving files back onto my NAS, I found that things were going too slow. The new NAS has gigabit ethernet. So I started looking around.Well, I quickly figured out that my home routers and switches were way way out of date.I had a 10MBP switch and a 10/100MBPS fast switch and a 10/100 routher: wow slow stuff.

So I went on Amazon and ordered two of these netgear Gigabit switches and a Linksys by Cisco WRT320N Dual-Band Wireless-N Gigabit Router.

Well, in less than 20 minutes literally I now have a network that screams!!!I'm getting about 350MBPS so things are nice nice.

I'm really glad that I've upgraded my network equipment.

On these switches:

PROS
-metal construction very solid
-cool to touch even when running
-autocrossover - so you don't have to have special cables to link switches or lose ports to uplink use
-very durable (one of my fast switches was a netgear and it's been going strong for 10 years alone in my basement!!)

CONS
-none (other than technology does age so expect to have to replace in 5 to 10 years with the next big advance)
